VPN Unlimited may not be a household name, but this affordable service might be a good fit for you — if you can overlook the company’s questionable privacy policy.

Over the past few years, more and more consumers have turned to virtual private networks (VPNs) in order to protect their privacy online. And as VPNs have become increasingly common, many of the best VPN providers are spending big bucks on advertising. Yet not all VPN companies have massive marketing budgets with which to buy a bunch of ads. This includes VPN Unlimited, a lesser-known VPN that still has quite a bit to offer.

If you’re the market for a quality VPN — but you’ve never heard of this service before — this VPN Unlimited review should offer some insight into what you need to know.

Introduction to KeepSolid VPN Unlimited: How It Got Popular

Developed in 2013, VPN Unlimited is one of several web tools developed by KeepSolid Inc., a technology company headquartered in New York City yet that largely operates in Ukraine. Upon its initial release, VPN Unlimited was exclusively available for iOS devices, and KeepSolid owned just two servers — one in the United States and the other in the Netherlands. Today, however, KeepSolid VPN Unlimited is available on all major operating systems, and the company operates more than 400 servers across more than 80 countries.

VPN Unlimited Software Overview

Here’s a quick rundown of VPN Unlimited’s basic features.

  • There are no bandwidth caps or speed limitations with VPN Unlimited.
  • KeepSolid VPN Unlimited operates more than 400 servers in over 80 countries.
  • The service encrypts user data with AES-128 and AES-256 specifications.
  • VPN Unlimited uses IKEv2, L2TP/IPsec, and OpenVPN encryption protocols.
  • Apps are available for Android, Apple TV, iOS, Linux, macOS, Windows, and Windows Phone.
  • There are browser extensions for Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, and Opera.
  • The service supports Apple TV, Amazon Fire Stick, Kodi, Roku, and Google Chromecast.
  • VPN Unlimited is one of only a few VPNs to still offer lifetime subscriptions.
  • Users can establish five simultaneous VPN connections, but device management is clunky.
  • VPN Unlimited is excellent for streaming videos, but not great for torrenting.
  • The company offers dedicated (personal) VPN servers with faster connection speeds.
  • VPN Unlimited’s privacy policy is vaguely worded and leaves a lot to be desired.
  • VPN Unlimited offers a free seven-day trial and a money-back guarantee on paid plans.

Is VPN Unlimited VPN Safe?

When it comes to keeping your internet activity private, VPN Unlimited doesn’t disappoint. Similar to most leading VPNs, this service transmits customer data with military-grade encryption over the most secure protocols. That said, VPN Unlimited’s privacy policy isn’t exactly clear compared to similar services, and the company is mostly silent about its stance on storing user data. This stands in stark contrast to many other popular VPNs, which boast about their no-logging policies and even undergo audits to prove their compliance.

So does VPN Unlimited keep logs? While the company’s website states that they do follow a zero-logging policy, the privacy policy states that VPN Unlimited does retain a hefty amount of user data. This includes time-stamped data about users’ connection attempts, connection types, encryption types, and device types. That’s much more information than many other VPNs claim to collect.

The Success of VPN Unlimited

The success of VPN Unlimited is largely due to the affordability of the product and its strength in terms of streaming. The Unlimited VPN cost is as low as $3.99 per month with a one-year subscription, and even the $7.99 per month pay-as-you-go rate is lower than many of the company’s competitors. And when it comes to streaming video, most major services work seamlessly with Unlimited VPN — with the exception of Amazon Prime. And the fact that VPN Unlimited apps are available on nearly all operating systems is also a key factor in the company’s success.

How to Install VPN Unlimited

Getting up and running with VPN Unlimited is similar to the processes used with most VPNs. Start by creating an account on the company’s website, then download the version of the software that matches your operating system. (If you’re using a VPN for Android, you can find the app in the Google Play Store or you can download the VPN Unlimited APK from the company’s website.) After you’ve installed the software, launch the app, log in with your username and password, and you should be good to go. It is important to note, however, that VPN Unlimited’s apps differ slightly depending on the version, and advanced settings available for one OS might not be an option on a different platform.

Optionally, you can also configure your router to direct all of your network’s traffic through VPN Unlimited’s servers. If you’d like to learn how to install VPN Unlimited on your router, you’ll find easy-to-follow instructions on the company’s website.

VPN Unlimited Unique Features

Here’s a rundown of some standout features included with a VPN Unlimited subscription.

  • An integrated kill switch keeps you safe even if your connection drops.
  • A built-in DNS leak test ensures your IP address is never exposed.
  • KeepSolid’s proprietary Wise technology can bypass some of the best VPN blockers.
  • Subscribers can purchase a personal IP address, which is less likely to be blocked.
  • KeepSolid VPN Lite offers free access to a single server and doesn’t support streaming.

There’s one more unique aspect of Unlimited VPN, but, unfortunately, it’s not a positive feature. As previously mentioned, Unlimited VPN allows customers to establish five simultaneous connections to the company’s servers, but there is a significant caveat.

Unlimited VPN will only allow subscribers to connect to their servers with devices they register with the company, and users only allowed to have five registered devices at any one time. That’s not such a big deal, but you can only delete one device per week from your account. Unlimited VPN does allow subscribers to upgrade to a 10-device limit, but this comes with an additional monthly cost. Such a restrictive policy is certain to turn off some users.

VPN Unlimited Speed Review

4.5/5

4.5 out of 5

During the week we spent testing VPN Unlimited, our connection speeds were good — but not great — when compared to other services that we’ve used. Server speeds did vary widely based on how far they were from our location, but on many we occasions we achieved impressive speeds. That said, the software sometimes took several seconds to establish an initial connection with a server. Most of today’s leading VPNs can create these connections almost instantaneously.

VPN Unlimited Server Locations & Information

4.5/5

4.5 out of 5

In general, VPNs tend to be judged by the number of servers they have and where those servers are located. This is one area where VPN Unlimited falls somewhat short. At the time of this review, the company claims to have more than 400 servers, which might seem like a significant amount, but it’s a small fraction of what other VPN providers offer.

It’s important to note, however, that although VPN Unlimited only has fewer than 500 servers, those machines are distributed across more than 80 countries, which is impressive for a VPN provider of this size. The software doesn’t allow users to connect to a specific server, but the company does categorize its machines into four categories: all, recommended, favorites, and streaming. VPN Unlimited has not publicly stated if the company uses virtual servers, even though most other VPNs are open about that.

VPN Unlimited Reliability & Downtime

4.5/5

4.5 out of 5

Our connection to VPN Unlimited’s servers remained consistent throughout our testing, and at no time did we experience any downtime or service interruptions. It is important to note, however, that the time it took to establish a connection with a server was often well above the average speed compared to other VPN providers.

VPN Unlimited Technical & Customer Support

4.2/5

4 out of 5

Although we didn’t encounter any issues while using VPN Unlimited that led us to seek help from the company’s customer support, we did want to see what their support experience is like. We were a bit disappointed to find that although the company’s website states that chat support is available, we were only able to contact a representative was through email. That said, we did receive a relatively rapid response after sending a message to their team.

VPN Unlimited For Streaming Netflix & More

4.8/5

4.8 out of 5

VPN Unlimited is a perfectly capable service in many regards, but perhaps the most attractive aspect of this tool is its streaming capabilities. During our tests, we were able to access numerous streaming sites while using VPN Unlimited, including Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and more. (The only major streaming service we weren’t able to access was Amazon Prime.)

VPN Unlimited is also a powerhouse when it comes to compatibility with smart TV hardware.

Here are some of the services, streaming sticks, and set-top boxes that work with VPN Unlimited:

  • Firestick
  • Chromecast
  • Apple TV
  • Roku
  • Kodi

VPN Unlimited For Torrenting

3.5/5

3.5 out of 5

Despite the popularity of streaming services, not all VPN users are focused on accessing popular video platforms. Rather, the primary reason some people use VPNs is to mask the fact that they are torrenting files with programs such as BitTorrent. Although the act of torrenting in and of itself isn’t illegal, many individuals use torrenting technology to transfer copyrighted content. For this reason, torrenting can be a taboo topic for some companies, while other VPN providers openly embrace it.

When it comes to VPN Unlimited, torrenting is supported, but only a minimal extent. A mere five of the company’s 400-plus servers are designated for peer-to-peer (P2P) connections, and those servers tend to become crowded quickly.

SecureVPN vs VPN Unlimited

These days, it can seem like a new VPN service crops up every time you turn around. And among the skyrocketing number of VPN services, VPN Unlimited is most often compared to VPN Secure. VPN Secure is a reputable VPN service based in Australia, though with most of its infrastructure in Hong Kong. And when it comes to using VPN Secure vs VPN Unlimited, there are a few tradeoffs to consider. VPN Unlimited, for instance, has servers in more countries, but VPN Secure has a stronger privacy policy and better support options.

Closing Thoughts: Is VPN Unlimited Good?

At the end of the day, VPN Unlimited is an affordable and reliable service that’s an excellent choice for those who want to stream a lot of movies and television shows. The service’s apps are easy enough for anyone to use, yet they also offer some advanced features for users with greater needs.

The service’s biggest drawback is its inscrutable privacy policy, which is likely to prevent some people from signing up for this service. So if you want to try out VPN Unlimited without paying for the service upfront, you can take a seven-day test drive.

I have been using this vpn for one year. I bought a lifetime subscription for $99. Overall this is a good vpn. It used to have medium speeds, however now in 2023 the speeds are a significant improvement. I have an internet package of 60/6 mb/s and with VpnUnlimited I achieve speeds of 46/4 mb/s. That’s perfectly fine. This vpn records the original IP address of the user, but only while the session lasts, after which the IP is deleted. However, they do not log user connections so they are good for privacy as they do not associate IP with web browsing. I am pleased. It was always unclear to me how the reviews say they have around 400 servers so I asked their customer service and they said they have around 3000 servers. When it comes to streaming, this vpn is among the best. I’ve never had a problem watching Netflix, Disney plus and similar movie sites. I am very satisfied with the vpn but I am very disappointed with their applications: Password manager and DNS firewall (these are their two independent applications in addition to the vpn). I had also bought them, but I asked for and received a refund because they were bad. Customer support is professional and quick in its responses (mail and chat). I also use Linux mint and I’m happy because they have an app for Linux as well. In the end, when I look at everything, from my experience I can recommend this vpn to others.

I have had this VPN for about 8 weeks, at first it worked very well, fast to connect and fast connections. However this last few weeks it has slowed down to a point its not something that can be used. It feels like it could be a great VPN but they did not finish it. Hope they get it sorted out

I have a lifetime subscription to VPN Unlimited and over time, I received and purchased five additional lifetime slots and a lifetime personal server. I wouldn’t say the process of removing a device is clunky, but I agree the one-device-per-week limit can be inconvenient.
